RFID & Traceability

Automatic identification of products from reception to use.

The challenge

UDI regulation requires knowing which product was used on each patient, and recording it by hand in the middle of clinical work is slow and error-prone.

What we focus on

  • RFID applied to healthcare products
  • UDI and regulatory traceability
  • Traceability linked to the patient episode

What changes

Recording without manual entry

The product is identified automatically, with no codes to type in the middle of clinical work.

Faster response to alerts

Knowing which patients received an affected batch without searching through paper records.

Documented UDI compliance

The traceability required by regulation is recorded as part of everyday work.

Capabilities

Product recalls and safety alerts

When an alert arrives, affected material still in stock is located and the patients involved are identified, so the hospital can act quickly and keep a record.

Questions we are often asked

What is RFID used for in a hospital?

To identify medical devices automatically, without scanning one by one, and record their receipt, location and use. It is particularly useful for implants and high-value devices.

What does MDR UDI traceability require from hospitals?

Regulation (EU) 2017/745 on medical devices requires health institutions to record and keep the unique device identifier (UDI) of the class III implantable devices they supply or receive. We build that record into daily work.

Does it integrate with hospital systems?

Yes. Traceability data is integrated with the ERP and, where appropriate, with the patient episode, through interfaces agreed with the IT team.
